The Plasmatics
Coup d'Etat
The Plasmatics were started in 1978 by Wendy Orlean Williams and her boyfriend, concept artist Rod Swenson, who managed the band. With her destructive performances, which caused the deaths of cars, TVs, and guitars, and her raw, balls-to-the-wall approach to music, Wendy and The Plasmatics ruled the punk scene by 1979. In 1982, they mixed punk and metal and declared a "Coup d'Etat." This record has lyrics that describe Wendy perfectly: a Libertarian vegetarian environmentalist who loved sex, but avoided drugs and alcohol. At the time, there was no heavier rock being made anywhere. She sadly killed herself in 1998, but remains one of the truest and most authentic rockers in history. --Anonymous
