Atkins, Al
Victim of Changes
Atkins tried to cash in on continued popularity of his former band with his second solo cd. His claim to fame as the first frontman of the legendary metal band Judas Priest is true, but since he isn’t on any of their albums, the importance of that statement ultimately rings hollow. He has gathered some good musicians including original Judas Priest Drummer Dave Holland and he recreated with better production the sound of early JP, but it becomes evident early on that he is the weakest link even on his own cd and Priest never would have achieved what they did with him in the band. Still it’s interesting as a collector’s piece with some insightful liner notes and old Priest photos. --
