The Wake of Magellan
Another milestone album for Savatage with their third concept album. Combining the powerful forces of metal and orchestra music, the story of the Wake of Magellan intertwines three subplots together, all to climax on the beach where an old sailor, a descendant of the great explorer Magellan, contemplates the futility of the rest of his life. I always love it when a band can tell a story through music and verse and nobody does it better than Savatage. (except Queensryche, once) The album is loaded with symbolism and imagery and is beautifully played and really well written. --
